My first "letter to the editor" was published February 10, 1981, in my hometown Alabama newspaper, The Anniston Star.

It's likely that I was spouting off even before that, holding a "fat" pencil between my fingers and writing , "I don't think recess should be cut by ten minutes and here's why."

My second grade teacher wrote on my report card that I was a "joy to teach", but tended to "talk too much." Hmmm, what exactly was TOO much?

This site offers a sampling of my essays.  I like what Muriel Ruykeyser said that  "When a woman tells the truth of her life, the world opens up".  And  when Flannery O'Connor  wrote "I don't know what I think until I read what I say".  Nothing better sums me up on most days.

P.S.  Please take a look at my photographs, too.  Capturing beautiful, funny, joyous and unexpected moments is also a passion of mine.
